Closets for a Cause—The Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation

Every month, Saint Louis Closet Co.’s giveback initiative, Closets for a Cause, chooses a nonprofit to receive a donation. We are happy to announce that the recipient of the donation for March is The Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation (OHHF). Its mission is to strengthen and empower families affected by congenital heart disease (CHD). They achieve this mission by wrapping families in love, providing medical and mental health support, and funding innovative technology to improve the outcomes of children living with CHD.

Saint Louis Closet Co.’s Impact

Did you know that CHDs are the number one congenital disability and the leading cause of infant death in the United States? In fact, one in 100 babies is born with a heart defect in the U.S. each year.

“We are honored to collaborate with the Saint Louis Closet Co. to further our mission of strengthening and empowering families affected by congenital heart disease,” says Founder Jennifer Hinkle. The funds raised by Closets for a Cause will go towards continuing care provided by OHHF. This care includes providing families and caregivers access to free mental health services and financial support, funding impactful technology that will improve the outcomes for children with CHD, and wrapping heart families in love.

Jennifer and Mark Hinkle started OHHF in 2013 following the death of their son Ollie, who passed away from a CHD at just one-year-old. Today, OHHF helps more than 4,000 people each year gain free access to mental health support, regardless of race, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background. That’s why, in 2020, OHHF launched Ollie’s Branch. This program is an access point to mental health specialists that support heart families (including grandparents, siblings, and even the heart patient) through virtual therapy sessions offered at no cost to the recipient. By supporting mental wellness and extending the peace of mind of heart families and healthcare professionals, it can enable them to better cope with CHD and care for the child—helping to strengthen heart families and provide benefits for the entire care team.
