Great news! Closets for a Cause is continuing throughout June by featuring the National Council of Jewish Women – St. Louis (NCJWSTL) – a nonprofit inspired by Jewish values to advance social and economic justice for all women, children, and families. NCJWSTL works through a program of community service, advocacy, philanthropy, and education to positively impact lives in our region to all in need, at no cost.
National Council of Jewish Women – St. Louis
Founded in 1895, NCJWSTL started the first free milk program in public schools and continues to serve children’s needs today. Their community service programs reach almost 17,000 people in St. Louis each year. These are designed to meet needs identified by the community they mean to serve.
Back to School! Store
Back to School! Store is one of NCJWSTL’s longest running community service projects. For over 20 years, BTSS has provided more than 20,000 underserved elementary-aged students with the tools they need to go to school and stay there throughout the year. Traditionally each year, over 1,500 students receive new backpacks, school supplies, books, clothing, shoes, socks, coats, and personal care items at the single-day event. Partnerships with 65 community agencies help them to identify families in need.
Saint Louis Closet Co.’s Part
This year’s BTSS looks much different than in the past due to the pandemic. Instead of the traditional one-day model, they have had to pivot and get creative in getting these much-needed supplies to children, so that they can continue learning in school or at home. Funds raised from Closets for a Cause will help NCJWSTL reach 2,000 children.
Shout Out to The Resale Shop
The Resale Shop is a charitable project of NCJWSTL founded in 1940. It provides people with an opportunity to donate gently used items that are then sold at affordable prices. Revenue from The Resale Shop directly supports women, children, and families through community service projects at NCJWSTL.
