Throughout September, Saint Louis Closet Co. will be setting aside a percentage of gross sales for Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition through Closets for a Cause! This nonprofit strives to create permanency in foster children’s lives by recruiting and supporting foster and adoptive families in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
“In a time of uncertainty, it is comforting to know that we have the partnership of Saint Louis Closet Co.,” said Natasha Leonard, director of external relations for the Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition. “This allows the coalition to carry out much-needed programs for keeping families together as we navigate these hard times.”
Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition
Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition was founded in 1989 to find a home for every child in foster cares located in St. Louis. As a coalition, they bring together key partners. Area foster care case-management organizations turn to them when all other recruitment methods have failed.
They receive referrals from Missouri Children’s Division, Missouri Alliance, Every Child’s Hope, Epworth, Youth in Need, Family Resource Center, and other member agencies. This model allows the coalition to look for gaps in state and private agency services, and design programs to address those needs.
Vision and Beliefs
The nonprofit’s vision is for a community that embraces its most vulnerable members, ensuring that each child in foster care has an opportunity for a healthy, successful life. Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition believes in meeting hard problems with the same creativity and tenacity that they see kids and families exhibit in their everyday lives.
Our Donation
Funds raised through Closets for a Cause will go to support their recruitment, support, and training programs making sure every child has a place to call home. Programs include:
- 30 Days to Family® – a short-term intervention to diligently search for a child’s relatives and kin to identify potential placement options and supports.
- Education Advocacy – strives to provide children with educational stability and personal growth while helping caregivers become more astute advocates for their children.
- Crisis Intervention – enrolled families get free help 24/7 (families in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County).
- Training – licensed foster parents are required to complete 30 hours of in-service training per licensure period.
Foster & Adoptive Care Coalition has served 1,200 additional foster, adoptive, and guardianship families so far this year through their Coalition CareLine. They have also engaged volunteers and donors to distribute 1,075 masks and 2,800 clothing items to foster, adoptive, and guardianship families – keeping children and caregivers safe.
