Every month Saint Louis Closet Co. gives a portion of our overall profits to a deserving, local non-profit through our program, Closets for a Cause. October’s selection is Artists First! Thanks to our loving community, we have continued this effort to give back to the people who deserve it.
About Artists First
For the past ten years, this inclusive non-profit art studio has been empowering artists of all abilities. Artists First uses creative self-expression to build equity, equality, and empowerment in the Saint Louis region and beyond.
Artists First directly serves over 225 individuals a year, including community members with disabilities, veterans with PTSD, disconnected youth, and elders with memory loss, in addition to a larger audience through community art shows and activities. Through their Open Studio program, they empower sidelined individuals to participate in the vibrant artistic community of the Saint Louis region. They advocate for respect for artists of all abilities.
Saint Louis Closet Co.’s Impact
The money raised by Closets for a Cause will go directly into Artists First’s art-based programs. Financial support enables Artists First to hire specialized professionals as staff members, provide a range of high-quality art supplies, and bring the works of underrepresented artists to the community.
“Community partnerships are very important to Artists First, and we are especially thrilled to be partnering with the Saint Louis Closet Co., a fellow Maplewood entity,” says Sheila Suderwalla, executive director of Artists First. “The donation from Saint Louis Closet Co. will help Artist First further its creative work with individuals with disabilities, veterans, and specifically veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and/or substance abuse, elders with memory loss and their caregivers, disconnected youth, and those experiencing toxic stress.”
