Celebrating 25 Organized Years

Anyone would agree that good organizational skills are a fundamental qualification for starting your own business. And in 1991, Jennifer Quinn Williams did just that, opening the doors of Saint Louis Closet Co., the first locally – owned St. Louis closet company that installed custom organizing systems crafted to stand alone (floor-based) and fit the exact dimensions of a customer’s closet.

Saint Louis Closet Co. has grown from modest means. In her first semester of graduate school, while working part–time, Jennifer decided to do what she loved – organize and change people’s lives. Then, in October of 1991, she approached the Small Business Administration (SBA) to learn how to go about starting her own business.

RibbonCutting

That November, she decided to try her luck at a start–up loan. Jennifer’s tenacity paid off and she received a call from the loan officer that the SBA and the Bank had approved a loan for $35,000.

What about the additional $15,000 she needed? Jennifer just forged ahead; trusting that early sales of her new closet systems would bring in the balance of money necessary to stay in operation. They did. So, at the ripe old age of 25, Jennifer had not only graduated from Saint Louis University and begun graduate school, but she also had begun to set up and operate her own business. That rst year would realize $236,000 in sales, an amount that has been exceeded by over 2500% in 22 years.

Jennifer’s roots are tied to St. Louis having grown up in Kirkwood and graduating from Kirkwood High School in 1984. This hometown entrepreneur then went on to St. Louis University to earn a B.A. in Communications and Public Relations. “I really enjoy owning and operating my Business in St. Louis,” says Jennifer. “There’s a great feeling in knowing that you’re helping your community and providing your neighbors with a superior product at the same time.” “St. Louisans love to buy from locally-owned companies, not franchises.”

Jennifer’s hometown connection makes a difference, especially when it comes to the company’s charitable and civic endeavors. Jennifer’s list of involvements is already an impressive one. She’s donated to her local alma mater KHS, and Saint Louis Closet Co. has installed closets at The Magic House, Glendale Lutheran, St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Forsyth School, John Burroughs School, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Our Little Haven and Friends of Wings.

40 under 40

Jennifer is involved with and has supported Children’s Hospital, Fontbonne University, St. Louis University, Forsyth School, John Burroughs School, The Maplewood Betterment Foundation, The Kirkwood Public Library, Juvenile Diabetes, Aim High, Girls on the Run, Our Little Haven, Ready Readers, The Susan G. Koman Foundation and the The Leukemia Foundation to name a few.

When Jennifer started Saint Louis Closet Co. she knew the importance of surrounding herself with quality people. “Our company’s biggest strength,” notes Jennifer, “is that of customer service. All 40 of our employees strive for excellent customer service. They continually try to exceed our customer’s expectations.”

Jennifer is proud of the product Saint Louis Closet Co. offers. “We have a unique system,” comments Jennifer. “Where many other closet companies hang closet organizers on existing walls – a practice that is not as secure or as adjustable as our product, we provide a safe, floor–based closet system built of our laminated shelving that is totally adjustable from the floor to the ceiling,” says Jennifer. “You have the ability to adjust, add or subtract from your closet system at any time.” By offering a variety of laminate colors, Saint Louis Closet Co. is not just limited to the closet. Murphy Beds, Laundry Rooms, Playrooms, Lockers, Craft Centers, Garages, Pantries and Home Offices are all products offered by the company.

“Almost all closet installations take less than one day, and since we manufacture our own systems in our custom closet factory,” says Jennifer, “we can turn orders around quickly. This gives us an edge over our competition.” There are no pre-made parts or sizes, so Saint Louis Closet Co. closets are TRULY custom and cut to size for your closet.

All the closet systems are designed, manufactured, and sold out of her 30,000 square foot headquarters in Maplewood with its state– of–the–art machinery, which allows the company to make its own product 100% custom.

Wrap and Craft in Style!

Tired of knotted up ribbons, crunched bows, and ripped wrapping paper?
Has the scrapbooking craze got you tied in knots?

The solution is here — Saint Louis Closet Co. organized and custom-made wrapping paper centers with trays and slanted shelves for rolls of paper and baskets for ribbons; scrapbooking workrooms with drawers, shelves and surfaces big enough to cut and paste, file drawers and baskets to organize even the messiest of craft items all in custom designed storage systems that are built for your needs.

Every family wraps presents…from kid’s birthday party gifts to those thousands of holiday gifts each year, the need for storage space designed specifically for wrapping paper rolls, bows, spools of ribbons and even scissors and tape has become an issue for most homes.

Traditionally, extra supplies were either pitched due to the inability to store them or they were shoved in a closet somewhere, only later to be determined too squished and torn to use. A specifically designed area to store these type of items is the solution and can make these activities fun.

Similar to the crafting and wrapping needs, scrapbooking storage needs have become the desire for families who wish to save their photos and memories in creative ways using photos, die-cut shapes, stickers, clip art, cloth swatches, doilies, buttons and other creative embellishments. This renewed hobby has sparked an entire industry of supplies — hence the immediate need for storage solutions.

Once you realized there’s a place for everything in your home…then everything will find its place in your Saint Louis Closet Co. wrapping paper center, your craft center and your scrapbooking workroom!

Saint Louis Closet Co. offers free in-home design consultations for all areas of your home, including giftwrap centers, scrapbooking and craft workrooms. Call us at (314) 781-9000 or visit us online at www.stlouisclosetco.com.

Get Organized with Custom Closets

Moms, Treat Yourself This Fall!

You have been getting the kids packed and unpacked from Summer camps, getting the family to and from Summer vacations, and getting everyone organized for the new school year with trips to the store for books, paper, pens, pencils, markers, haircuts, new clothes, new shoes, new backpacks, lunch boxes and everything else under the sun. Now that you have successfully transitioned the kids and the family into the new school year, it is time to take some time to get yourself organized.

VcWcUl9x0lctUwDcaSHC9yl0bT39jF3lxmchka-wvcY

I know there are plenty of moms out there who put themselves last on their list of priorities when it comes to things like buying new clothes, buying new shoes, getting a haircut, and so on. What many mothers do not realize, though, is that if you are putting yourself last, who is putting you first? Getting your children organized for the new school year–and more importantly keeping them that way–is not going to happen unless you get yourself organized first.

Let’s start by taking a look at your bedroom closet. Whether it is a disaster or could just use a good sort-through, now is the perfect time to take some time for yourself and get your belongings in order for the new season. Saint Louis Closet Co. specializes in getting you organized, and we can work with you to create a bedroom closet that will work with your daily life. That is the great thing about getting a 100% custom closet: the space is designed with your needs on the forefront. One of the many features that we offer is shoe shelving. You can get flat or slanted shoe shelving for as many pairs of shoes as you need. No longer will you need to spend 20 minutes digging through a pile of shoes on the floor trying to find one matching pair.

market-homeorg

Being able to get out the door as efficiently and quickly as possible in the morning is directly related to how prepared you are to face the day. If you have to spend 15 minutes in the morning deciding what to wear, ironing your clothes and picking out shoes, that means it is going to be 15 minutes that you are unable to make sure your kids are up, moving and ready to get out the door. A few things that I use daily to get myself organized in the morning are the folding ironing board and telescoping rod from Saint Louis Closet Co. I get myself as prepared as possible the night before so that I can focus my attention of getting everyone out the door on time and on schedule. Saint Louis Closet Co. offers a folding ironing board that fits conveniently in the space of a 24” wide drawer. After ironing my clothes for the next day, I hang it on one of our telescoping rods that extend from the side of our closet unit. And by having shelves that clearly display the days’ possible shoe options, I never have to dig for a pair of shoes to match my outfit.

The reason I chose to focus my post this week on getting moms organized is because I believe that moms’ needs are the last ones on the list of priorities. We all need to realize that, as mothers, we are the driving force behind the success of our families, and if we do not take some time to take care of getting ourselves organized in the short run, we will not be able to get the rest of the family organized in the long run.

St. Louis Closet Co. Fall Special

Fall is the perfect time to get organized and St. Louis Closet Co.’s Fall Special is just in time to help you with your projects.  From Master Walk-in Closets to Pantries and Murphy Beds, Saint Louis Closet Co. can create More Space in your home.

b6a1a304-9266-47af-95f4-e585402061d9

Along with the new season and new school year, it is once again time to reorganize the spaces in your home to coincide with the incoming season. If you have a Saint Louis Closet Co. system, this would be the time when you would re-adjust your shelves to be able to comfortably store your children’s growing clothing and shoe inventory.

With summer coming to a close, shoes are one thing that are going to require more space this season, for example switching out your kids’ flip flops for their sneakers and eventually snow boots. Our 100% adjustable systems give you more room for doing just that. Just add, remove or adjust a shelf to make room for fall’s bulkier items, such as jackets, sweaters and jeans.

I cannot count the number of times that I have told my kids to stop throwing their backpacks and jackets on the closest piece of furniture the second they walk in the house after school or soccer practice. The solution we have found at our home is lockers and cubbies for our mudroom, so that every time my kids walk in the door, the closest piece of furniture is a cubby and hook especially designed for their belongings. This also works wonders for sports equipment and sports bags.

Teachers can even find some organization for their classrooms this school year. Getting all the pencils, markers, glue, blank paper, books, construction paper, scissors and miscellaneous supplies organized will make the school year go just that much smoother.

Saint Louis Closet Co. design every type of system to meet everyone’s organizational needs, and that includes classroom supply closets, mail centers, storage rooms, lockers and even kid’s home desks.

Back to School Tips

5 Helpful Back-to-School Tips

Fabric Boards

Tip #1
Get a routine the first few weeks of school, and make a place for your kids and their stuff. A place for backpacks, shoes, coats and sports equipment. Once this routine and system is established, stick to it…it will save you and your kids hours looking for things.

CollegeSchoolLockers

Tip #2
Establish a storage area in your home for extra school supplies. Stock up at the beginning of the year so your kids can always replenish their backpacks and lockers without last minute trips to the store.

Pearwood

Tip #3
Make a family bulletin board for calendars, sports schedules and invitations. Keep everything in this one place so everyone knows what everyone else in the family is doing.

ShowroomOffice

Tip #4
Purge your kids closets and drawers of all clothing they don’t wear or doesn’t fit. Try on everything and make a list of necessities. Head to the stores armed with a list needs and sizes…this will prevent unnecessary purchases.

HomeOffice

Tip #5
Make sure you have a special homework area set up so your kids ‘have their place.’ This desk area or kitchen table should have good lighting, comfortable seating, access to a computer and wifi, if needed, and be quiet and away from distractions.
