Founded in 1891, Children’s Home Society of Missouri (CHS) has become a well-established nationally accredited nonprofit agency serving short-term and long-term needs of families and their children who have faced severe physical and emotional trauma in their life.  They embrace the non-traditional and most challenging cases.  They offer a comprehensive array of services including community mental health services, education and training, family support services, and residential/respite care for at-risk families and children who need us most, and in many cases, have no where else to turn.  And for those children in their residential care homes, they instill that sense of family by caring for them like they are one of their own children.

Saint Louis Closet Co. and Children’s Home Society believe every child deserves BETTER no matter what their situation.  A BETTER foundation, a BETTER life, and a BETTER future.  And we know we have to be BETTER because our kids DESERVE it.  To help build a better future for children, please visit us to sign up for our curb-side pick-up of your donated items, visit http://www.chsmo.org/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi.

CUSTOM-DESIGNED SPACES TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS While there may be countless “one-size-fits-all” organizational options available at retail stores, nothing can beat a closet system that is built to your space’s specifications with only your needs in mind.

StlHome

The systems made by Saint Louis Closet Co. do not include any pre-made parts, sizes, or components, and they are completely adjustable, meaning your closet can change as your needs do. The company’s designers will meet with you, analyze your needs, measure, and design the perfect customized closet and organizational system for you.

A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING/ EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE Gone are the days of scarves and shoes strewn about your closet space or loosely contained in store-bought plastic bins. The beauty of custom-designed closet spaces is that there’s an attractive storage solution for all of your items. A list of seemingly endless custom options are available at Saint Louis Closet Co. to ensure your new closet system is both functional and beautiful, both space-saving and eye-catching.

Some of the customizable options available include pant racks, shoe shelves, glass door and drawer fronts, basket liners, jewelry drawers with divider inserts, belt and tie racks, and scarf racks. Many of these options can be added during the original installation or even years later. The systems are fully adjustable to change with your needs.

BEYOND THE CLOSET Don’t let the name fool you—Saint Louis Closet Co. is much more than custom closet systems; the company also specializes in pantries, home offices, Murphy beds, laundry rooms, mudrooms, linen closets, coat closets, lockers, craft centers, garages, and more. Imagine the ease of cooking when your pantry contains neatly stocked spice racks, pull-out drawers, and basket-rim shelves. Or imagine how much more you’ll want to do that pile of laundry when everything is accessible, from fold-down ironing boards and tilt-out laundry hampers to telescoping rods and wardrobe rails for drying and ironing.

About Our Designers

Shayla Berkley

Shayla

Years at the company: 13

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: Helping people get organized is the most rewarding part of being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co. I love working with repeat clients. They bring with them this contagious excitement. I enjoy going to new places, new spaces and new homes every day. Each day is different than the previous day. It keeps me on my toes and keeps my creativity going.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: First and foremost, you need to prioritize your spaces. You should start with the most unorganized, disruptive place in your home. The change you will see after fixing just that one space is amazing and you’ll realize just how much custom organization has helped your life.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: Playing with my two grandchildren, swing dancing, golfing, water aerobics and visiting with family and friends.

Mary Cain

Mary

Years at the company: 14

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: The extremely satisfied repeat customers! My goal is to change chaos into a well-designed place for everything and to create new spaces in each of my customer’s lives. I walk away from their homes knowing that I really helped to make a difference in their lives.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: It helps tremendously when you can actually sit down with your designer and have her draw up your closets on the spot and explain exactly how the design is going to meet your needs.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: Spending time with my husband, son and daughter are on the top of my list.  We are always updating and remodeling our home.  We also enjoy weekend getaways at Mark Twain Lake, boating, jetskiing and kayaking.

Christine Haltenhof

Christine

Years at the company: 17

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: First and foremost, the amazing relationships I have developed over the years with both new and repeat customers. Secondly, I love being able to use my creativity every day; every project is completely different, with its own specialized needs.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: Because the custom closets are 100% adjustable they can be changed as your needs change.  If you sell your home, that feature is passed on to the new homeowner.  Custom closets are considered a permanent improvement to your home and will add significant resale value. Secondly, I love that it is the only female-owned closet business in St. Louis. [Owner] Jennifer Williams operates this company in the same manner that she would want people to work for her in her own home. There is unparalleled attention to detail and a great level of respect and care given to each and every customer.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: I love to spend time with my two children and four grandchildren.  My hobbies are gardening, traveling, theater, music and staying fit.

Jodi Rhoads

Jodi-new

Years at the company: 7

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: I absolutely love working with people!  I have developed so many amazing relationships and have designed some incredible spaces for them.  It’s rewarding to have my repeat customers call me directly with their new projects!  I also work with a group of extraordinary people.  I know that all the staff my clients work with from SLCC will be treated with the best customer service in the industry.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: Do not be intimidated by getting organized; it is not as daunting of a task as you think it will be. Also, it doesn’t take thousands of dollars to get organized. We can work with any size budget, and I think that the affordability of a custom closet is something that really surprises a lot of people.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: I love the flexibility of my schedule because it allows me to spend time with my wonderful husband and children; Reece and Chase.

Tammy Simpson

Tammy

Years at the company: 15

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: The flexibility of my schedule is great. It allows me to plan my time to be able to serve my customers, as well as spending time with my family.  Each day is a fun new challenge, and the variety of what I can offer goes beyond storage issues, it’s a complete organizational re-work.  It is truly rewarding to help my clients.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: Most people don’t realize how affordable custom closets can be. Many think that you have to spend a lot of money and get all sorts of accessories, but most times I find that keeping the design simple not only makes it affordable, but you don’t feel overwhelmed or distracted by how much is going on in your closets. Don’t forget that the closet is the tool, not the solution, to getting organized. It is up to you to keep yourself organized, but you will be amazed at just how much easier it will be to stay organized by installing one of our custom closet systems.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: I love listening to music, watching movies and enjoying the outdoors in my free time. Spending time with my family and friends is very important.

Maria Skornia

Maria

Years at the company: 8

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: My favorite part is my freedom to be creative. The company is extremely supportive of your creativity and they want you to improve on your craft and pick up new things from other designers along the way. All of the designers really are fabulous and whenever we’re in the office, we like to bounce ideas off each other and get a feel for new trends in the closet industry. There is so much to learn and so many ways to be creative, I love it!

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: Keep an open mind and don’t get too attached to your possessions. To get organized, you have to part with some of your things, so make sure that you are ready to do it when you start the process.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: Anything outdoors with my family and dogs. We love to camp and travel.

Heather Sparks

Heather

Years at the company: 8

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: I love looking at difficult spaces and coming up with the perfect design that will maximize both space and function as well as look beautiful once completed.  Every space is different and each customer has unique needs…I enjoy the challenge of creating custom designs and I love hearing how happy my clients are with their newly organized spaces!

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: Saint Louis Closet Co. designs custom spaces based on the customers specific needs.  Take time to think about how you use your space on a daily basis and communicate that with your designer.  The details of your life are reflected in the details of your closet, pantry, home office, etc.  So definitely keep that in mind throughout the design process.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: I enjoy spending time with my three kids.  My daughters are very involved in competitive dance and my son is getting ready to graduate from high school.  I also teach dance and love to travel.

Angelia York

Angliea

Years at the company: 22

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: Every day is a new challenge. Organization is my life and I love being able to help people make their closet dreams a reality. I truly love helping people get organized!

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: No space is too small. We can really help anyone get organized.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: I’m always working, but when I’m not, I love spending time with friends and family, antique shopping and traveling. I would love to go back to Italy!

Janet Zeloski

Janet

Years at the company: 11

Why she loves being a designer for Saint Louis Closet Co.: I really enjoy meeting with all kinds of people in the St. Louis area.  It is very rewarding when we come up with a great way to use a space and the customer gets excited about it.  No two situations are the same, so my days are always interesting with new challenges.

What is the most important thing to keep in mind when getting a custom closet: We ask lots of questions and we listen to what customers say.  Getting a closet designed for their specific needs is the main task, while still keeping in mind practicality, price and even re-sale value.

What she likes to do when she’s not designing: I love being outside, spending time with my husband, two kids and my dog.  I spend my free time watching lots of baseball, reading, biking, shopping and traveling.
